News.

Thanks to all that attended the Special General Meeting. We had been looking at the rules, and in particular how they stopped us from applying for grants. So after some quite considerable work re-writing them, (our last set were written in 1955, and refered to 1897 legislation),

So at the meeting the vote was unanimous to adopt the new rules.

These are now with the FSA being registered.

These are available should you wish to see them.

We may be looking at the Bye Laws in the not too distant future, as these are a little out of date too.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED.

Our OPEN DAY  is on 3rd  August and the gates are open at 10.30 till 2.30.

We are hoping to encourage a number of people to rent new plots.

So far there is aProduce stall, tombola , raffle, bric – a - brac, Cake stall, Tea and coffee, B-B-Q . There are plans for a few other things in the pipeline too.

Please donate a small amount of your veg or fruit for the produce stall. We also want a few items for the bric a brac (car boot style stall), cakes and plants.

This is your society. Even if you can only come and tend your plot for an hour or so, we would be grateful, but need some help running the day too. We want people to see this place a hive of activity, and a friendly place too.

We need help with most stalls, and some to meet and greet, and generally be around. Also to help set up the stalls, gazebos, chairs etc. and to pack them away too.

A report on the open day is on Leicster Mercury Blog spot http://communitynewsleicestermercury.blogspot.com, and there should be an article in the Community section shortly.

On 26th July at 11.00 we are holding a meeting about the Open Day. Please attend and see how you can help

Toilet.

Planning permission is in, and all being well, should be passed within two or three weeks. as soon as we get confirmation, we will be having it installed. You may have noticed, it is already on site. This is a long awaited facility that we will all be thankful for.

Storing onions

The traditional way of storing onions is to string them together and hang them up. This is quite easy to do.

Ensure that the onions have been left to dry and ripen but still have pliable stems. Remove any loose outer skins and and trim off the roots. If necessary cut the stem to about 4 inches (10cm).

The length of the string is not really important but remember that the more onions that you place n the string the heavier it will be - and you will have to lift it, to hang it up. I have found that a length of string about 5ft (1.6m) long is about right though. Fold the string in half and tie a knot at the loose ends to fasten them together.

To make working a bit easier I usually hang the string on the back of a door using a hook bent out of a piece of wire coat hanger but you can hang it on whatever is convenient to give a suitable working height.
